A couple weeks ago, my wife and I made the trek up north on what will probably be our last camping trip of the season. We had heard from friends about their many trips to Voyageurs National Park, which is the only national park in Minnesota. We decided it was the perfect destination to get an early glimpse of the fall colors.

The park and its surrounding waterways were nothing short of spectacular, and we caught the colors at their peak even though we visited on the first official day of autumn! We had a relaxing couple of days hiking and camping along Lake Kabetogama, seeing plenty of loons, eagles, otters, grouse, and even a rare glimpse of a wolf sunning on a rock ahead of us on the trail! Each morning, the sun would come up over the lake, and mist would rise as far as we could see. I tend to get up at the crack of dawn when camping, spending my time waking up with coffee and a camera. Here is a virtual tour I shot of the sunrise the last morning we were there!

Standard | High Definition

Most of the campsites are only accessible by boat, and we had this island to ourselves, aside from the otters! If you haven’t been to Voyageurs before, I highly recommend making the trip! We will certainly be back many times in the future!
